Earthy Twines, Smoot Mahooty's fourth CD was released in the spring of 2010. Once again Producer Billy Williams was at the helm. The album features 10 tracks which includes two instrumentals, all with the usual Smoot Mahooty flare that can not be confined to one style of music. Additional musicians were brought in to complete the sound that rattles around in Tom's musical imagination, which include Greg Ahmann (guitar), Matt Meyers(drums), Kozy Kozak (mandolin), Jerica Nicolaides (violin), Tim Nicolaides (accordion), Garland Craft (keyboard), Jane Hilton (viola), Priscilla Bertling (vocals) and Brid Dower (vocals). Another artistic success for Smoot Mahooty, a little bit of something for everyone. Check out song clips from the album below.
Track 1 - "This Good Man"
A great song co-written with Tom's good friend, Michael Patrick O'Mara.
Track 2 - "What's Your Name"
A little samba song about Priscilla, (big surprise)!
Track 3 - "Earthly Twines"
The title track of this album, Earthly Twines the war within ourselves.
Who We Are, Smoot Mahooty's third CD was released in 2007. Producer Billy Williams has attanied the status of Obi-Wan-Kenobi in Smoot Mahooty mythology. Tapping into Phoenix's vast pool of talented musicians, guest artists include Billy Williams (guitar), Hans Olson (harmonica), Al Abassi (guitar), John Good (flute), Priscilla Bertling (vocals) and Brid Dower (vocals). All of this, along with great songs, make for another fabulous Smoot Mahooty record. Check out song clips from the album below.
Track 1 - "My Love"
If God is Love, then the invisible Love that passes between souls IS God.
Track 2 - "Forgive"
This one had been sitting around for a while. Kevin Mauch kick started it lyrically, and Hans Olson just plain
kicked it’s ass.
Track 10 - "Beach at Kill Devil Hills"
This is a song is about a trip that Priscilla and I took to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. It was a 13 hour
drive from Nashville. It was such a memorable trip that we wished there was a train that could take us there
instead of that long ride in the car.
Along for the Ride, Smoot Mahooty's second CD was released in late 2006. With Billy Williams (Lyle Lovett's longtime producer) once again handling producing duties and engineering by Jeff Harris, the album features 14 tracks with myriad influences, while remaining true to the Smoot Mahooty sound and music values. Guest players on the album include some of Phoenix's finest musicians - Ryan Bowman (drums), Brad Brown (guitar), Ron Rutowski (violin), Mike Smith (dobro), John Good (flute), Priscilla Bertling (vocals) and Bríd Dower (vocals). This combined with the addition of Williams at the production stage have made for an fresh and elegant recording. Check out song clips from the album below.
Track 3 - "When It Comes To Push & Shove"
This is a song is about the reality of marriage, and that sometimes it’s not always smooth sailing. But this song helped to move us into calmer waters.
Track 12 - "Where Does The Truth Lie"
This song came from watching news reports about terrorist activities, and wondering why one group would do that to another, and then asking the question “Where does the truth lie?”
Track 11 - "Mother Natures Child"
I was inspried to write this song while playing at the Mill Cue Club in Tempe, Arizona and watching to lovely college girls dirty dancin together.
Leavin' You Behind, Smoot Mahooty's debut CD was released on March 5, 2001. Public response to the recording, which has been featured on TV and radio has been extremely positive. Mixed and mastered by Billy Williams (Lyle Lovett's longtime producer), the album features 12 tracks ranging in style from blues to smoky jazz to flat out tire-burnin' rock and roll. In addition to showcasing their own outstanding musical and writing abilities, the Smootsters brought in a number of guest players for this CD project. As a result, a mélange of great songs combined with diverse ideas has been created. Check out song clips from the album below.
Track 1 - "Leavin’ You Behind"
Kevin and I wrote this one about his girlfriend who was coming down from Prescott to Phoenix to see him, and cancelled at the last minute. She later called him and said she had gotten married over the weekend.
Track 5 - "Just In Case"
I started writing this song with a very talented songwriter by the name of Jimmy Hasselsworth, and finished writing it with my wife Priscilla.
